WELCOME NEW STUDENTS

I am now offering violin lessons in at my house in the West Ukrianian Village.

My teaching draws on my classical training (B.A. Music, Macalester College) and my experience performing in many fiddle styles. I usually use a combination of Suzuki/classical repertoire and traditional fiddle tunes/jazz/blues, but I adapt my approach to each student. I also incorporate improvisation and composition excercises. Some of my students study exclusively fiddle material and some focus more on classical. Most have a balance of the two.

I enjoy starting students from scratch and I teach all ages and levels. The majority of my students are kids, but I really enjoy adults as well, especially the ones who have always wanted to play and are trying it for the first time. I also like to help students who have classical experience branch out into new realms. Above all, I try to make sure all my students to enjoy the process of learning.

EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching about 30 students per week in Minneapolis for the past 5 years and I have taught workshops at the Mark O'Connor Fiddle Camp, RockyGrass Bluegrass Academy, North House Folk School, the Upper Midwest String and Chamber Music Conference, City of Lakes Waldorf School etc.

The bands I've played with include Piper's Crow (celtic), The Orange Mighty Trio (mostly original), The Parisota Hot Club (Stephane Grappelli style gypsy jazz), Yonder Mountain String Band (bluegrass) and many more. You can read more in the projects area of my site.
